The National Innovation Visa (858) have officially commenced as of 6 December 2024, ushering in a new era for attracting exceptional talent to Australia.
Key Changes:
New Visa Name: The Subclass 858 (Global Talent) visa is now renamed the Subclass 858 (National Innovation) visa.
Invitation-Only Process: Applicants must now be invited by the Minister to apply, ensuring a streamlined and exclusive pathway for highly skilled migrants.
Focus on Verified Achievements: Applicants must demonstrate the same internationally recognised record of exceptional and outstanding achievements outlined in their invitation letter.
Removed Pathways: The role of the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy for Global Business and Talent Attraction has been eliminated due to low utilisation since its introduction.
Why This Matters:

Transitional Arrangements:
Applications for the Global Talent visa submitted before 6 December 2024 will be assessed under the previous framework. The new regulations apply only to applications made from the commencement date onwards.
The National Innovation Visa represents a bold step in refining Australia’s skilled migration framework to meet the demands of a dynamic and competitive global landscape.
